Zombies!! and you can't shoot them?!?!?

First Review I am going to be doing is going to be on a game I recently purchased and completed. The name of this game is Amnesia: The Dark Descent. A PC title that came out several months ago by the independent developer and publisher Frictional Games. Now this was quite the thriller of a game, from the time I spent in this game I was constantly being scared to death. You never know whats around the corner and you are pretty sure you don't want to find out. The first time I faced death I was actually unable to actual watch it happen. It is very sissy of me I know but you try playing it. I will let you know why.

The way the mechanics work is that there is no weapons in the game. It is just run and hide hope they don't see you while your characters sanity is slowly draining. You are just about to look into a new room when you forgot to refill your lantern and it goes out and all you hear is low growls. You see a door shake and you hear the sounds a woman getting tortured. These simple mechanics is where the thrill really comes from. The suspense of never truly knowing of what is going to happen next is just incredible. Now the story is also nothing to shake a stick at.

You start out at the top of this tower bleeding not sure who or where you are. All you find out is that you need to get revenge on this man who made you do some unknown act. The storyline progresses through little diary snippets you find as you slowly descend the tower and find the pages lying around. There also being flashbacks you have that help progress you forward along with a very creepy eeriness. The story lasts about six hours and it doesn't drag on long enough for it to really lose to much shock value.

Now to the appeal. The main gamer that I would recommend this to would be anyone who has played previous games by Frictional Games such as the Penumbra series. Another would be anyone who is in to survival horror games. If you like the adrenaline rush from being chased by something you're to afraid to look back at then this is a great game you should pick up. I would not really recommend this to someone who is really into shooters or role playing because both those features are absent from this game and it gives a complete sense of helplessness.

You can purchase it on Steam right now for $19.99 which is a very decent price. Check it out will most likely be worth it and if its to scary to finish, power through it. Good luck and Happy Gaming.

P.S. Stay out of the water
