There once was an Age of Dragons (Original title)
Hey guys with Dragon Age II just around the corner thought I would give a review on the first installment in the series.Dragon Age: Origins in a rpg made by Bioware. These are the people who brought you games such as Mass Effect 1 & 2. This game has strategy based team combat system with mages and warriors.
The way you play the game changes on which job you picked at the beginning of the game. With mages you stand in the back and give out orders while dealing burst damage. On the other hand if you play a warrior you want to be in the fight up close and dealing constant flow of steady damage. The final main class being the rogue where you try and be a little sneakier while always fighting the monster from behind. These three classes later have more options opened up where you can customize them even further and I will leave those open for you to find out. There is a option to pause and give out individual orders if you are more into the strategy part. On the other hand you can customize how your party members handle each situation and leave the game flowing. One of the greatest strengths however is the storyline.
Now here is where the game truly shines. You start out making your character and what race, class, and location , all give out a different origin story before the main scenario quests begin. With humble beginnings you are taken from your home to go be trained to be a warden to help fight off the invasion. With the darkspawn preparing to attack, the fear of a blight being a possibility has the empire worried. After some turn of events it is left to you to gather the help of the other races to fight off the blight. With new characters being met and possible romances there is not going to be a identical play through. All the ingredients for a great rpg.
This game is going to be a great experience for anyone who likes to get immersed in a world filled with its own lore and prophecies. It will keep you busy for a very long time with all the content and different choices you can make to alter the story. I would not recommend this to someone who likes a lot more fast paced games because this game can be a little slower and might not hold your attention. Also with all the dialog it can seem to get pretty dry and uninspired.
So this game is out on Xbox 360, PC, and PS3. It is little over a year old and priced at $29.99 which is a great price for all the hours you will get out of it. I really enjoyed playing it and I will try and play some of it and have it running on the stream so you guys can see some game play. I will probably have it loop one of the origin stories. Hope you guys enjoy Dragon Age and get ready for the Dragon Age 2 to hit sometime March 2011. Expect a review from me after the release.
