Infamous 2
Infamous 2 is the sequel to the very successful Infamous. Being put out the same time as Prototype, Infamous was able to win over the gamers and in the psuedo competition Infamous came out on top. Sucker Punch developed this game who in the past did the Sly Cooper games. There are a lot of old combat moves returning as well as some new ones that you are sure to enjoy using against all the bad guys. Infamous 2 picks up right where the first one ended with there being a unknown threat coming and Cole needs to be ready for it when it arrives. Well in the first five minutes of the game the beast arrives.
Cole McGrath is back and in the first scene of the game the Beast arrives and starts wreaking havoc. Barely escaping to New Marais you need to evolve your powers to deal with the beast. The story line is progressed through several main story quests that will occasionally give you a choice to be good or bad. Though it is generally pretty polarized because once you pick a side you will generally stick with that. This is because you get more powerful the more you are involved in one side or the other. The overall story will not deviate though due to your choices the people just might interact a little different with you. This gives the game a little more freedom because you can be who you want to be and choose what side you want to go with. Then you are still not really missing out a whole lot of the game. This does still give the game some good replay value however if you do want to see all the what if... situations. These story missions are generally pretty unique with not very many involving the same task repeated over and over. However the side quests are generally simple and you might find yourself doing some monotonous tasks consistently but it does not get to exhausting.
The game play is still very true to the original with there being a couple new moves that keep things fresh. One big new element they added is the "Amp", this is Coles new weapon, this melee combat weapon gives you a lot more flexibility than the previous hand to hand combat. The melee is very simple with you just mashing the square button, throwing in a finisher when you can by hitting triangle. There are some other new mechanics such as being able to adjust you basic electricity moves and adjusting them to have other effects such as sticky grenades or your electric push to make enemies lose gravity. These can make combat fun and you unlock abilities at a steady pace keeping every encounter not entirely bland. There are several other returning elements such as blast shard farming in order to increase your maximum number of charge slots.
So overall this game is true to the Infamous name it does well to keep things we loved in the first one and improve on other things that were not the best. So this game does have some flaws however with the lack of enemy types. You are consistently fighting wave and wave of the exact same enemies with hardly and reprieve. There are these other monsters that you will end up fighting but there is somewhat of a lack of meaning behind them. They don't quite explain why they are there and what they really are. Another issue with this game is that you need electricity to recharge but there will be times where there is nothing to recharge with and it can feel kind of buggy when trying to recharge you might not be close enough and it can get frustrating. Overall this game does well to keep up pacing and the parcore works well and you feel very powerful at times which is how you should feel in a super hero game.
Overall this game is a good game with some minimal issues that are not game breaking. It will last you a good 8+ hours if you insist on doing everything and this can be more if you want to play both sides, being good or evil. My opinion of this game is that it is a lot of fun and worth getting if you are craving some super hero action or missing Cole from the first game. This game is exclusive to the PS3
