One Great Civilization

Civilization IV is a great game all around in my opinion. Sid Meyers the creator of the game has done a good job with the fourth installment of the Civilization series. This game is a turn based strategy game and has a lot of content to enjoy. With no two games being the same and with randomly generated maps to try and control, this game will give you hours of enjoyment.

With the game play begins with a very simple turn based strategy aspect but as your civilization grows so does the complexity. With the beginning of the game starting out as just a group of settlers you look for the perfect place to plant your future utopia.  Once settled you start to generate more workers and units to go and explore or to expand and make more cities. With the late game being much more complex than this you have to start being diplomatic with some countries and deal with invasions from others while taking advantage of the weaker nations. This can get very difficult to multi task and this is where a whole lot of the strategy part comes in. Now as for story you are playing as one great leader.

When the game starts you get to pick a great leader from many tribes and nations to represent your country and each leader gives a beginning boost to your characters. You get to meet many great leaders as you play through the game including Ghandi and Cleopatra. With several famous people from history being born in your nation or others. This can lead to some silly scenarios such as Ghandi declaring war on you and Alexander the Great just not living up to his name. A funny situation I was fortunate enough to experience was I founding Christianity around 400 B.C. from the great city of Scotts Valley.

This game is great for anyone who just wants to sit down and burn some time. With each play through lasting couple hours it can be quite the time sink. Just don't lose track of to much time don't want to be late for important things. A lot of the enjoyment comes from really involving yourself with your civilization and even having a inner monologue about how your going to destroy Egypt and back stab Ethiopia. I would not recommend this to someone who just wants action now and is not very patient. Though this game has many ways you can achieve a victory, running and gunning is not one of them. So patient and thoughtful person yes, Gears of War addict, no.

This game is available for both the Mac and PC platform through Steam. This being one of the easiest ways to obtain the game in my opinion. So hope this has persuaded some people to make the plunge and get such a legendary game and have a blast doing so. This will only run you around $19.99 for just Civilization IV and $29.99 for the game including all the expansion. Have fun guys.
